Triage news on your holdings to material items with links

An agent filters company news down to material items such as guidance changes, share offerings, rating changes and legal or regulatory events, summarises each with a link, and drops rumours.

How it works

  1. Paste your holdings list into a private Grok chat, not a public X post.
  2. Ask it to search the web for company press releases, SEC filings and reputable news on each holding; do not expect complete filings coverage.
  3. Keep only items in the prompt's material categories and drop anything without a primary-source link.
  4. Each item gets a two-line summary and a link.
  5. Read the digest in that same private chat. Then, independently open and verify every single link against the primary source or EDGAR yourself; discard any item whose summary does not match the document exactly before considering it further.

Copy-paste prompt

Triage news for the private list {{holdings}}. Search the web and EDGAR for overnight and pre-market items on each name.
1. Keep only: guidance changes, share offerings, rating changes, mergers, regulatory or legal decisions, filings such as current reports.
2. Every item needs a link to the primary source or a reputable outlet. No link, no item.
3. Exclude rumours, social media chatter and opinion pieces.
4. Summarise each item in two neutral lines. No view on price.
5. For each candidate item, perform a fresh web search and EDGAR lookup. Only keep if the linked primary source, or a named reputable outlet when no primary source exists, confirms that exact event happened since the prior US cash close (overnight through pre-market). Do not drop an item only because the source is dated the previous calendar day, and do not keep an item only because it is dated today. Cite the exact URL retrieved.
Use only URLs from a fresh web search. If search does not confirm the event, omit it. Do not fill gaps from training-cutoff knowledge.
Important: if you cannot retrieve and confirm a primary source via real-time search in this session, exclude the item entirely. Do not use any pre-trained knowledge. Output only verified items.

Guardrails

  • Source link required for every item.
  • No rumours.
  • Private digest; never posted.
  • Verify every event and link against live EDGAR search or official issuer site before inclusion; discard if unverifiable.
  • Explicitly instruct the model to use only current search results, never training-cutoff knowledge.
  • The digest is never final. You must click every link, read the original filing or release in full, and confirm the event and summary before any position-level reflection. The model output is triage only, never advice.

What can go wrong

Web-search agents frequently miss quiet 8-Ks, return broken/secondary links, hallucinate events or dates, or treat X posts as news despite instructions. Summaries can be subtly slanted. Grok's search is not a substitute for direct EDGAR use. Always verify every link yourself; false negatives are common and dangerous if they create false comfort.

Why it helps

You see the handful of items that could matter to your positions without scrolling for an hour.
